Bank's offer rejected by union members
Key Points
• 75% of members who voted have rejected the bank’s offer during the formal ratification
ballot held over the past fortnight. The ballot closed at 1pm today.
• 67% of members who voted have also voted to hold a 2 hour unpaid stop work on Friday
August 22.
• The bank has agreed to attend mediation with Finsec. This mediation will take place in
Wellington on Monday August 11. Both parties have agreed to enter this mediation in good
faith with a view to reaching a positive outcome.
• The public postcard campaign will be launched next Tuesday August 12, depending on the
outcome of mediation.
ACTIONS:
1. Delegates – Please make sure that all workers on your worksite or branch are aware of the vote
result.
2. Members – Get ready to participate in the public postcard campaign. Campaign packs are being
sent to worksites this afternoon. However we are asking members not to start distributing the
postcards until we know the outcome of mediation on Monday.
Thank you to everyone who participated
in the vote
The union council would like to thank
everyone who participated in the vote.
75% of members who voted have rejected
the bank’s offer and 67% of members who
voted have also voted to hold a 2 hour unpaid
stop work on Friday August 22.
This vote means we have a clear view of how
the majority of members feel about the offer
and the areas you would like to see
improved. Pay and targets have been
identified as the two most important issues
that need to be resolved.
Bank and Finsec agree to mediation
ANZ National and Finsec have agreed to
attend mediation. The purpose of mediation
is to try and find a mutually agreeable way
through an impasse between an employee or
a union and an employer.
ANZ National and Finsec will be entering into
this mediation in good faith and we hope it
will achieve a positive outcome for union
members. We will report back to you on what
happens on Monday or Tuesday morning.
Public postcard campaign
All worksites are being sent a campaign pack
this afternoon. The pack contains postcards
for members to sign and send to the bank
and recruitment materials for non-members.
We will be getting in contact directly with
members who said they were happy to help
with the distribution on the postcards in the
coming days.
We ask members not to distribute any postcards until you have received further information and instructions following on from mediation on Tuesday August 12.
