Remaining staff now await a review of the branch operating model.

ANZ branch staff laid off

ANZ branch staff have been told today if they have been offered voluntary redundancies. 129 of those offered voluntary redundancies are Finsec members.

The bank called for voluntary redundancies to reduce the number of staff in ANZ branches in order to reduce costs as a result in the downturn of over the counter transactions.

Finsec can support affected staff
Staff have until 7 November to make a final decision on accepting or rejecting the offer of voluntary redundancy. If affected staff have any questions or concerns or need support, please email union@finsec.org.nz or ring 0800 FINSEC.

Breakdown of Finsec members’ voluntary redundancies
Here is some information on the 129 Finsec members offered voluntary redundancy.
Roles
CSO1 51
CSO2 42
PB’s 26
Other roles 10
Affected members have 2310 years of service between them, an average of 17.9 years each.

Understaffing concerns grow
Today’s announcement is likely to worsen existing problems with staffing levels in the bank.

In our recent survey of staff 47.5% of respondents said their branch was understaffed and 45.7% said current levels were just right. Only 7% of respondents felt their branch was overstaffed.

As a result of the voluntary redundancies, an additional workload burden will fall to remaining staff.

Branch review next up
The next step after confirmation of voluntary redundancies is that the bank will start the process of reviewing its branch operations. Finsec is in dialogue with the bank about the terms of reference for the review.

We will also be working with branches as part of the Finsec staffing and targets campaign.
