Better Banks is about workers and communities coming together to improve our banks.
To win Better Banks we need to build five pillars of strength to support us
Industrial Strength
We need to grow union membership to win higher pay, better work life balance and improved working conditions across all banks. If everybody recruits one new member we can double our size and strength.
Membership Strength
We must focus on training union delegates and members to campaign for better banks. We can only win through membership activity.
Community and Political Strength
We need to be an influential and respected critic of and conscience of the banking industry. We need to be a voice for consumers and workers to make change happen. We must be a political force on the issues that face the industry in order to create better banks.
Union Movement Strength
Banking is a huge international industry so we need to work with other local and international unions, such as the Australian Finance Sector Union, to build better banks here. If 85% of New Zealand banks are owned in Australia, we need to have influence in Australia.
Internal Strength
We must be an organising union which has member and staff structures to deliver better banks. We need to prioritise spending on campaigning and electing strong democratic member leaders.
