Better Banks - what it means for Finsec members who do not work in banks

Dear Finsec delegates and members,

I am writing to you to announce the start of a new Finsec campaign that aims to significantly improve people's working lives in the banking industry.

This campaign will not directly affect you and all your colleagues who do not work in a bank.   However, I believe that it is important that you know about the campaign, as it will be a significant one for Finsec.

All members who work in banks will be attending paid union meetings in November to discuss and provide feedback on 'Better Banks', our three-year campaign that will be run across all banks.   The campaign will focus on issues in the banking sector that remain unresolved; performance targets, understaffing, stress, pay levels and lack of training, to name a few.   The goal is to make changes across all banks rather than working on one bank at a time.

There are two important things we would like you to know:

  1. Despite the size of this campaign (it involves approximately 85% of all Finsec members) organisers and other staff will continue to work with delegates in the insurance industry, finance institutions and other Finsec worksites to ensure that members' voices are heard and that members' pay and conditions all continue to improve.
  2. Although the 'Better Banks' campaign will obviously focus on improving the working lives of those people in banks we believe that the improvements we generate will have a positive flow on to the wider finance and insurance industry.   The 'Better Banks' campaign is a new style of industry wide campaigning for Finsec.   If it succeeds we will be looking to launch similar campaigns in other areas of the finance sector.
