March-April 2006

Finsec Biennial Conference Highlights

  • Sue Boraston re-elected National President, and joined by new Vice-President, Kelvin Pycroft.
  • The key priority for the next two years is to engage positively with non-members, build membership and intensify member activity in campaigns.
  • An industry-wide campaign was launched against target-based pay and its associated symptoms; overwork, understaffing and work related stress.
  • Conference confirmed an increased focus on grass roots campaigning, as advanced during 2005 during negotiations with ANZ National, BNZ, Baywide Credit Union and Westpac.
  • Executive Committee election results: Cathie Lendrum-ANZ National, Maxine Mullen-Westpac, Anton O’Brien-ANZ National, Murray Scott-ANZ National, Peter Russell-AMI, Jenny White-VeroAsteron (together with the President and Vice President).
  • A small fee increase for full time members (75 cents per fortnight) reflecting members’ calls for smaller, but more regular increases. Members earning between $15,000 and $20,000 will see their fees increase by 45 cents per fortnight to $9.45. Members who earn under $15,000 will see their fees drop from $4.50 per fortnight to $3.00.
  • A resolution was passed to effect a change to rule 14f to reduce the quorum for conference from 20 to 15, reflecting the smaller number of delegates that are now eligible to attend. If any member has any view on this proposal that they wish heard contact Finsec (details here).
