BNZ Update
14 September 2007
KEY POINTS:
- Our Better Banks recruitment campaign is slowly starting to work. But we need to keep growing.
- The next step of our campaign is to seek public support through the media.
ACTION:
Please identify proud union members on your site who can tell the public why they are supporting the campaign to help BNZ become a Better Bank . Talking to the media is easy; they want to hear our stories, and we need their support.
We're starting to grow
Finsec's campaign to help BNZ become a Better Bank by seeking more staff, fairer targets and better pay is building momentum.
Since 3 July when we launched our campaign membership decline has ended and our membership numbers are starting to increase again.
So congratulations everyone! You are doing good work and improving our chances of convincing the bank that these issues matter to all workers.
However we still have a long way to go. Keep talking to non-members, especially new workers and ask them if they support our goals for more staff, fairer targets and better pay.
Keep asking non-members about issues
Ask them to describe what their ideal workplace would look it and what they think the best way is to achieve that - doing nothing and waiting for the bank to make changes or working together positively to campaign for change.
Part of our campaign to win positive changes in the BNZ and help it become a better bank will involve seeking the public's support for our campaign. To do that we need members who are willing to stand up as proud union members and tell their stories to the media.
We need to talk to the public and media
This is not as scary as it first sounds. In fact it can be quite fun. We want to compile a booklet of people's stories about working in the BNZ, staff levels, targets pay, so that the public can hear why it is that our claims are so important. We want to hear stories from workers in all parts of the bank and from all around the country.
If you think you, or one of your colleagues, have a story to tell fax back this form to Finsec 04 3825 2214 or call us on 0800 FINSEC, or email union@finsec.org.nz
